Slam Poetry Night in Battle Creek Filled Café Rica With Community, Courage, and Spoken Word

On Saturday, January 31, from 6 to 8 pm, Café Rica became a true community stage in Battle Creek. Slam Poetry, presented by NAACP Battle Creek Branch and hosted at Café Rica, brought together adults and youth for a powerful evening of spoken word, civic reflection, and connection. This event was created in partnership with Battle Creek TRHT and Arts & Culture Collective of Battle Creek, with entry proceeds benefiting S.A.F.E. Place. More than 50 people filled the room, a packed house that felt attentive, present, and engaged. It was the kind of night that reminds you what a city can look like when people show up for one another.
